Steven Whiteley (†\/) is a New York-based/nomadic composer, sound artist & transmedia artist. He is interested in exploring the perception of the self and embodied and fragmented consciousnesses in the context of internet culture, late capitalism, and the age of the Anthropocene. His works have been awarded, performed and exhibited at such venues as The Kitchen (New York City), Smock Alley Theater (Dublin, IR), Paralelní Polis (Prague, CZ), Casa Cava (Matera, IT) at festivals and conferences such as the MATA Festival, Dublin Music Current Festival, Los Angeles Emerging Artist's Festival (LAEAF), MA/IN Matera Intermedia Festival, Echofluxx 18, Montreal Contemporary Music Lab (MCML), National Student Electronic Music Event (NSEME), and others. He was composer in residence and is a fellow at I-Park Inc. in East Haddam, CT and has been active as a performer in the New York and Montreal DIY music scenes, having toured Europe, the UK, Canada, and the USA with different projects. He studied Composition at Mannes College the New School for Music in New York City, and Composition and Eastern Philosophy & Religions at McGill University in Montreal. His past mentors in Composition have included Robert Aldridge, David Sampson, Eleanor Cory, Melissa Hui and Philippe Leroux.
